Every Sunday at some point during our video chats with the GoF staff, we hear the jingle of an ice cream truck driving by playing a tinny version of “Happy Birthday.” We all laugh – most people would agree that ice cream brings joy. So after the big holiday of Eid al Adha, the teachers decided to take the Garden of Flowers children for an ice cream outing.

The children wore their nicest new clothes and walked happily the 15 minutes to the local ice cream shop. Along the way, local shopkeepers and people on the sidewalk greeted the children and admired their nice clothes. The children beamed and the teachers were proud, and we were happy to see the pictures of such a sweet childhood outing in Kabul.
