The first day of spring brings the New Year to Afghanistan (It is now the year 1403 there!) And this is also the start of the new school year. This means the oldest children are graduating from the Garden of Flowers.
It is always bittersweet when children reach the point of leaving the cozy Montessori environment, but for eight Garden of Flowers children, that time has come. And while the teachers and younger children are sad to see them go, the graduates themselves, at age 6 and 7, are naturally ready and eager for their next adventure! This is a good sign, that their Montessori foundation has served them well and they are full of confidence and inner strength.
Mostafa and I met with the graduates on a video chat recently to wish them all goodbye and good luck. The level of confidence shown by both the boys and the girls was striking and impressive. They spoke well and conversed with ease, and were also noticeably respectful of each other, not talking over each other or dominating, as children of that age sometimes do. They are READY for the world, full of joy and energy!
The team organized a sweet and lovely graduation where each child received a certificate. Afterwards the Garden of Flowers community enjoyed a time of joyful connection and celebration.
We are so proud of the work of Fatima and Nadia (who has now taken over for Razia as a teacher) and the whole GoF team for the Montessori work they continue to do. The parents of the children also expressed to the team their great appreciation for what they have done for their children.
