The following stories were gathered by the Montessori team, telling the stories of about the ten children who were the first to return to the Garden of Flowers in September 2026:
1- Mudassar and Mubasher, four year old twin boys:
Their mother is a 40-year-old woman. She is illiterate. She has five children, all of whom are boys. Her first son is ten years old. Her second child is eight years old, the third is five years old, and the fourth is twin boys, four years old. Her husband had a freelance job and has been missing for two years and has not come home. She takes more or less the expenses of her family from her brother, who is a daily laborer and has five children. Their living conditions are very bad.
2- Rashid, a four year old boy. His mother is a 43-year-old woman with little education. She has five children and her husband lives in Karachi in Pakistan. They live on a very small income. And her little son has been suffering from constipation since birth. He had an operation a year ago but it didn’t help. The child still has constipation and needs help to feed and treat him.
3- Fatima, a six year old girl. Her mother is a 46-year-old illiterate woman.This woman’s husband is a day laborer and has six sons and four daughters. Her children are educated. Their living situation is very bad from an economic point of view.
4- Nasim, a six year old girl. She lives with her aunt. Since Nasim is an orphan and an uncared-for child, her aunt has taken care of the child. She says that when Nasim’s mother passed away, Nasim’s father also left home and went to Iran and gave Nasim and her older brother to their aunt. Aunt Naseem says, ‘Since I had no children, I take care of them very happily and well.’ The only thing that makes her sad is their poor economic situation. She says that her husband collects people’s old bread, irons, and bottles from the morning all day long, until he can bring them a bite of bread in the evening, and they have been living like this for some time.
5- Moazama, a four-year-old girl. She lives with her 28-year-old mother. Because their economy is very poor and their nutrition is not good, her mother looks older than her age. The child’s father sells old clothes and they have six children. The mother says that because the husband is very anemic, he is always sick, meaning that half the time he is in the hospital and half the time he is at home.
6- Yusuf, a four year old boy. His father is a 23-year-old young man who has a disability and also has a mental illness. He has a wife and two children and they are not very well off financially. So every day in their house there is a fight and argument about eating or not eating food, who eats and who doesn’t eat.
7- Aisha, a six-year-old girl. Her father is a beggar and wanders the streets from morning to evening to find money for bread. We asked him why he doesn’t work, and instead begs? In response to our question, he said: “I bought all my life’s capital in Karachi and I used to sell vegetables on the corner of the street there, and we lived well and we were still happy with my small income. But since Karachi collected me for deportation and sent us back to Afghanistan, I have nothing left from all my capital, so I have no other job other than begging.” He says he has to wander the streets begging to get a bite of bread.
8-Mubasher, a six-year-old boy. His father is a young man of 25 years old and he likes to work very much, but he cannot find work. As a result of his efforts, he met a butcher and the butcher gives him several halal chickens every day and tells him to take these chickens home, clean them and bring each chicken part separately in disposable containers to the shop on time. In return for his work, he gives him a small wage, which they spend their days and nights with great difficulty, but they are happy that at least they are busy working.
9- Sahar, a six-year old girl. Sahar’s father is an apprentice in a hotel in the dishwashing department. They are very happy because when the dishes are brought to him to wash, he collects the leftover food in a plastic bag and brings it home. Her mother separates each dish and her family, Sahar’s mother and grandfather also eat from the same food and live.
10-Hasna is a five-year-old girl, whose mother is a seamstress and her father is a day laborer, is currently unemployed because he was deported from Karachi, Pakistan. Hasna’s mother has three daughters and four sons, and she finances a family of nine from the money she makes from sewing. Hasna’s mother says that it is very difficult for her to meet the needs of her family through sewing.
